1 Thirty Days to Die - an ailing playwright turns the tables on a malicious critic, who walks out on the third act of a new play, and correctly guesses how it ended. The writer threatens to kill the critic unless he could guess the outcome of his new play, about the murder of a critic!
The result is that the critic is sentenced to death for the author's murder
3 The Corpse of Pleasant Avenue - a man attempts to cover up the murder of his young daughter
4 The Wilful Widow - two minor villains scheme to steal from a rich widow in order to pay off their debts to a master crook who demands £500 from them
5 The Thief Of London - a wealthy young man is persuaded to put his gifts to legitimate use by an honest young woman
6 The Marriage Trap - a killer leaves barbers' razors as calling cards
8 Strangers on the Sea - a couple are honeymooning on a sea voyage, she is badly injured and trusts in medicval aid offered by a fellow passenger whom everyone believes to be a doctor, though he is actually an insane fugitive on the run
